When Olympic athletes speak out in favor of "progressive" causes, they make front page news in the United States.  But when a multiple gold medal winner at multiple Olympics speaks in favor of the Second Amendment and self defense, it was the foreign press that covered the issue. Multiple gold medal winner Kim Rhodes spoke out on 5 August in Rio de Janeiro.  From the independent.co.uk:

Ms Rhode said she was “becoming more vocal” about her opposition to what she sees as restrictive new gun control measures, including in the context of recent terror attacks. “When you look at these events... they’ve been occurring in some of the strictest gun law countries in the world,” she said.

“You have Paris, you have San Bernardino, which was actually in a gun free zone… in that five minutes or 10 minutes or 20 minutes in some cases that it takes for [police] to get there, how do you want to stand there? I would rather have my second amendment right.”
  From the Guardian.com:

Rhode, who has won three Olympic gold medals, the last of which came in the 2012 London Games, believes her sport has been “stigmatized” in recent years. She lamented the loss of the world of her parents, where children read “dime novels” about Teddy Roosevelt and Annie Oakley and guns were celebrated as a part of culture.
Kim Rhodes statements in favor of self defense, freedom, and American culture were ignored by the dominant media in the United States.  While Rhodes comments at a press conference in Rio de Janeiro met with silence from the New York Times, the Washington Post, AP, or the LA Times, the foreign press printed lenghthy articles.

Japan Times spent column inches explaining the demented death threats that shooting atheletes receive from anti-gun and anti-hunting extremists. From japantimes.com:
Several shooters have received death threats, requiring extra security.

Trap shooter Corey Cogdell-Unrein needed extra protection after someone posted hunting videos on her Facebook page without her knowledge.

A two-time Olympian, she grew up in Alaska, where the family hunted for its food, and still hunts. Despite saying she didn’t agree with the content of the videos, Cogdell-Unrein received numerous death threats before the 2012 Olympics.

After the London Games, where she won bronze, thousands of people signed a petition to strip her of the medal.
To their credit, NPR did a story before the Olympic games, and USA Today briefly mentioned Kim Rhodes statements in a related story about teammate Ginny Thrasher. Thrasher won a gold medal and set an Olympic record in 10 meter air rifle.

Prior to Obama, they weren't nearly as pro-government and reported news with some bias. Nowadays they often manufacture outright lies to support and protect their chosen ones. They've become the Ministry of Truth (and Propaganda).

Also check out Gabriela "Gabby" Franco

I've heard her as a guest on Andrew Wilkow's radio show.

She runs a training program now in Miami.

Whenever there is a Democrat who is president, they become decidedly more pro government.

Amen. I also would like to add I don't intend to spend my last few moments on Earth cowering among the dead bodies, trying to hide under a desk or begging a Muslim for mercy.

I must have a fighting chance. Ultimately, at such times, defending my own life is up to me, and no other person. I should not be forced into having no recourse but to die.

Good point and it was so. And you should have seen the frenzied shark swarm over Nixon!

Still, it has gotten worse.

Maybe it’s the 24 hour news cycle or maybe the so-called journalist degrees require 4 years of Leftist indoctrination, but the anti-Trump spew is among the most heavy targeting I’ve ever witnessed. Only Sarah Palin’s treatment comes close.

“Yeah I was 12, not 5. I watched the news and dont remember this insanity.”

You did not have the Internets or talk radio. It was the Reagan administration that killed the Orwellian termed “fairness doctrine” that muzzled speech on the radio. Rush Limbaugh was able to rise and develop his show after that.

Without any significant opposition, the media cartel staged a media coup that took down a president (Nixon).
