Wendy’s moves to self-service ordering as minimum wage rises

Investor’s Business Daily reported Wednesday that fast food chain Wendy’s will be expanding the use of self-service kiosks in response to the rising minimum wage:

Wendy’s said that self-service ordering kiosks will be made available across its 6,000-plus restaurants in the second half of the year as minimum wage hikes and a tight labor market push up wages.

It will be up to franchisees whether to deploy the labor-saving technology, but Wendy’s President Todd Penegor did note that some franchise locations have been raising prices to offset wage hikes

Other fast food chains are also experimenting with self-service kiosks. McDonalds has also made them available to stores.

I have a theory about McDonald’s, that is, everything they make is all one thing, and in the back they have this big vat full of this stuff, these little molds combining, like SPLURT ‘Hamburger!’ SPLURT ‘Malt!’ SPLURT ‘Paper box!’ SPLURT ‘Here’s your change!’

My buddies wife did this at pizza hut, he went to pick up the pie and there was a foul up.
Prolly his wife, but I told him “Hey, why not do what I do? go down there, place your order, sit at the bar and have a beer while you wait and get a break?”

That’s fine. Better to have less workers, who are making a living wage rather than incompetent fools supplementing their government handouts.

Took me 57 years to figure out that the reason Dads favorite pizza was made 12 mi away and why it took so long to make was that Dad needed a break from the wife and kids, but he always brought the pizza home piping hot.

...Sigh...unintended or intended consequences?...

Fringe lunatic liberals think they are business experts. However, the real world usually interferes with their plans for us. Socialism just doesn’t work wherever it has been tried. Never has. Never will.

When the government interferes with the right of a business to make decisions for itself, the consequences are not good. Others will follow suit. Goodbye entry-level jobs! Was this what the democrats intended?

I guess what they could do is the very modern Automat service that we had over 30 years ago in my college dorm.... put the burgers and fries, etc into little glass/plastic cubbies and have a microwave set up next to it. Easy Peasy!

and tastes so barfy too!

re fast food and robots:

Years ago I used to frequent a Vietnamese restaurant.

The owner/chef knew that I a had just an half hour for lunch.
I ordered the spicy ginger fried catfish.
She say “take too long, you come back tonight”

I said why so long?

She say “first I have to catch the fish, Then I have to kill the fish, then I have to Clean the fish, then I have to cook the fish. Gonna take long time, you come back tonight” LOL

I did and it was good LOL

When the government interferes with the right of a business to make decisions for itself, they now run that business.

GM
Chrysler
Banks
Mortgage Lenders

Now they are going after food and oil/gas industries.

One of the few reasons I like minimum wage laws, they drive tech innovation to save labor costs. High wages are a very valuable thing to have in an advanced civilization.

Your envisioned automated cooking and assembly system is pretty close to commercial rollout, with several startups demonstrating full systems integrating automated order, prepping, cooking and assembly of fast-food.

Well, that’s a very interesting point of view and something I need to ponder!

It’s like we are living under the Enclosure Acts of 19th Century England, when peasants were forced off the land and into the factories. So good, perhaps for the future, but so bad for the present...

Fast food is going to be a royal ripoff. Not worth the price anymore. So much for my dineros. A lot less
