Don’t forget the FBI.

I just sent a message to her. We’re talking about Jamaican beef patties.

LOL! I was in college in the 80s, and we didn’t have that level of modernity.

It takes 3 seconds to say “a number 1 medium drink”. It takes a lot longer to navigate thru the menus on the touch screen. Sucks.

When I was in the Navy in 1980 they had Hot food machines in the barracks that vended piping hot cans of Chef Boyardee and other asundrey things, Beside it was a soda machine that contained beer.

The things the Japanese put in vending machines is a whole new world

They’re a riff on Cornish pasties brought by the English colonists. The crust is orange because of the turmeric and inside is ground beef full of Scotch bonnets. I loathe Scotch bonnets.

Actually, the discussion is about what food have you bought at a convenience store that you liked. Not packaged items but stuff under those heat lamps. I’m still mulling this one over.

Hot canned food? Interesting! I remember that one of the reasons I loved to visit the ship or the hangar’s mess hall, when I was a girl, was that they had soft ice cream machines and chocolate milk on tap.

No, prices fluctuate a lot, because local economies fluctuate a lot. That’s why the Big Mac index exists, you can find out what the relative value of labor is by figuring how many average worker minutes a Big Mac costs. http://www.economist.com/content/big-mac-index

You can get nice Jamaican meat pies at frozen at Sam’s or Walmart. My church’s mission group always passes them out at parish events, for a donation. In Jamaica, according to my daughter, they give you the trots.

No argument there but having to pay kids $15 an hour for the sake of hiring humans might not be the way to go. Kids show up, dont show up to work, bitch or complain or might be model employees. You never know what an owner might get. Plus there is the cost of hiring and training and insurance and on and on. If I own an efficiently-run wendys with an order kiosk maybe i can build a second one and hire the kids i couldnt at the first one. Robots took over the auto and hitech industries, and im guessing the sunk cost is surpassed somewhere along the line and the rest is profit for the owner. The displaced employee finds work elsewhere as the economy changes and needs dufferent skills here or there. There wasn’t a lot of skill working on an assembly line for $60 an hour inserting a radio knob. No doubt theres an argument there.

Yeah, that's different. That was not a place a Captain's daughter went ;-).

Once I got lost while on a family cruise on the Eisenhower and wound up in the Marines' quarters. The off-duty Marines politely conducted me back to where I belonged, even without being told who my father was.
