Using Technology to stay safe in the woods.
Hunter safety is something we bring up a lot because its something that is way too often overlooked.
It's sometimes easy to get caught up in the excitement of the hunt and forget about some of the fundamental safety rules of hunting. That's where the Safety Shot app comes in, it's an app that works easily with your cell phone or tablet to keep you and all of your fellow hunting buddies up to date on exactly what's going on in the woods.
The app is really easy to set up and it allows you input information about what you are hunting, current plans for the hunt, and group identifiers so that you can make sure that everyone in the area is included in the hunting map. So is anyone using an app like this out there? Read the rest of the app story here.
No, I can turn off both sound and vibrate (a separate option anyway - which can be disabled) on mine (HTC/Android). I'm no smart phone expert, but I'd expect you can do that on any phone. Check under "sound profiles" on yours. Mine has a "silent" option. (That new app this thread is about could call it "kill mode" :-))
I thought the idea was to alert one another when hunting an area to prevent accidents. If the phone doesn’t do SOMETHING, how do they know there’s an alert coming in. I’ll go back and read it again; maybe I missed something.
Sorry, I didn’t read it in detail either. I thought it just showed you on the map where the other guys are so you don’t shoot in the wrong direction. Well, that’s how I’d design it anyway...not that I design such apps. Perhaps in version 2 or 3...
Article was read. I don’t need an app to tell me where other hunters I’m hunting with are at. We brief before we go out and we know here each other is at. If someone moves they let you know.
Been hunting for many years and I don’t need a cell phone or a “safety” app.
It was a simple comment...
