The Safety Shot App

Using Technology to stay safe in the woods.

Hunter safety is something we bring up a lot because it’s something that is way too often overlooked.

It's sometimes easy to get caught up in the excitement of the hunt and forget about some of the fundamental safety rules of hunting. That's where the Safety Shot app comes in, it's an app that works easily with your cell phone or tablet to keep you and all of your fellow hunting buddies up to date on exactly what's going on in the woods.

The app is really easy to set up and it allows you input information about what you are hunting, current plans for the hunt, and group identifiers so that you can make sure that everyone in the area is included in the hunting map. So is anyone using an app like this out there? Read the rest of the app story here.

Your phone dinging, ringing or vibrating will alert the game to your presence, and the hunt will suffer for it.

Does the app have an FBI backdoor in it?

Agreed - better to sacrifice the odd hunting buddy. :-) Or, you could set the phone to silent mode.

Another reason to leave the cell phone home.

Too many folks can think anymore, they need an “app” for common sense.

What happened to identifying your target?

“Another reason to leave the cell phone home.”

Another reason to actually read the article ...

Maybe Black Lives Matter will use the app to communicate their kills with other members ?

“What happened to identifying your target?”

What ever happened to reading an article ...

...you could set the phone to silent mode.

That's vibrate, isn't it? I'm half deaf, and I can pick it up across the room; I assume critters would be even more aware of it.

Or you could, you know, be observant of your surroundings.

1. Its against the law to read an article on FR.
2. I read the article and still don’t see a point to this app.

Hence my original comment.

If I go hunting and can get cell service. I'm already disappointed.

You must hunt in an area with cell coverage.

One, a hunt is not some weird high tech thing. Why not just use a drone and hunt from home?
Two, entire swaths of decent hunting areas have zero cell coverage.

Three, California is odd.

Anyone that needs an “App” isn’t the type of hunter you want to be in the woods with anyway, bank on that. I’ve been around many hunter wannabes, total morons.

IMO you’re not far enough off the beaten track if you have a cell signal anyway.
