Chrysler just beat Ford in dealership sales for the first time ever

It was a milestone month for FCA.

For the first time ever, Chrysler has outsold Ford in US retail sales, reports Reuters.

Retail sales refers to only cars sold directly to consumers, not counting sales of fleet vehicles to corporate customers. Including fleet sales, Ford moved 223,666 cars and Fiat Chrysler group sold 186,864. General Motors, meanwhile, saw sales slip slightly year over year and sold 265,825 cars.

For the industry as a whole, it was another good month as car sales continue to go up. 2015 is expected to see even more growth in car sales, as the market continues its recovery from the historic low it saw in the aftermath of the credit crisis.

Well, that is one way to think about it. :-)
Don’t get me wrong, I have a soft spot for some British cars, but every friend or relative I have had who restored a vintage/classic Brit car told me that the first step was removing the unholy touch of Lucas.

I agree. There is *something* special about an interceptor Crown Vic.

What use is a hoist if you don’t use it? ;-)

My last project truck was a built 400 (.040 over). There was nothing Cleveland related in the injection market in a bolt on at the time. I wish I had that truck injected. It has ported 2V heads, oversize valves, a boss 351 spec hydraulic cam, ported intake manifold and a 670 Vac secondary carb with all the off-road mods. -Great- power and over 15 mpg highway. But it gets thirsty around town.

I assume it's better.....the Torino is a toy so.......(honestly, since I retired, most of my cars are toys. My new Ram 1500 gets around 8 around town.....but on trips I can get 20)......I have a 71 Cutlass Supreme that has 6000 original miles. I doubt it gets great mileage either.

Yea but to change that rear bank, an engine pull (partial at least) is a BIT much ;)

I think they drilled the firewall on later models though.

I hear thats pretty much a given for a bike/car with their curse. I never had the pleasure of that pain. Thats what you pay a vegas hooker and a whip for ;)

Yeah I meant 351.....we also have a Windsor that the boys bored and stroked out to 427 or there abouts....never ran right so we rebuilt the 351 Cleveland and but a mildly hot cam in it and the carb/distributor/computer kit in it. The Windsor is s future project.

I read that 427 windsor is an absolute beast but yea, there are issues with them. At least their were last I read. Which was like 5 years ago.

I always like the Clevelands. Especially the 4Vs in the Ttorino/Mustangs. Tennis ball intake ports and 7K RPM out the door from Ford.

No sound on earth like a 351 Cleveland wound up tight. Chebby guys hated that sound. Especially in Doppler as it pulled away from them ;)

I seem to recall that that was one of the changes made near the end of the production run.

First year model (85 or 86?). Still had all the bugs, including that horrible transmission.

BTW, years later, one of the women on my team had a husband (retired Army) who thought Fieros were the greatest thing that ever rolled off an assembly line. He rebuilt two of them, one for himself and one for his wife. Both looked and ran great.

The later GTs had a pretty decent V6 and the power to weight ratio with GT was good.

The new Chargers make excellent looking police cars, though.

Doppler......funny.

I’m a MOPAR guy that likes Fords, too. I wound up inheriting a cherry 71 Cutlass supreme with 6000 original mikes from the wife’s family. The beauty of GM (I still hate them) is accessibility of ALL parts. I wind up searching eBay and wrecking yards for my MOPAR/FOMOCO parts. But I can buy any part you can name from Original Parts Group for my Cutlass.

Yup, Chevy had the parts thing down. Of course as often as they broke it was needed ;)

Kidding aside I WISH Ford had the factory availability Chevy did. And their quality was top notch. When the muscle car era ended, Ford corporate purged the system on an asinine act of gas guzzler PC.

Ford, please bring back 2 cars: The Galaxie with a 427, 2 door coupe, 4 door sedan and a wagon, and a V10 powered Mustang.
