The New York Fire Department has dropped a test to measure the strength and physical aptitude of its members amid concerns that there are too few females on the force.
Critics are slamming the move as a lowering of standards and lives could be endangered because people with inadequate skills will be tasked to do the same jobs as before. Supporters believe it will allow otherwise-competent firefighters to stay on the job.
Its a lowering of the standards across the board, said one former FDNY official.
He believes that first-year Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro should be concerned with doing a good job and saving people, not with what is politically correct. He explained, What needs to matter is how well you perform the tasks of firefighting. The question is when youre 270 pounds and youre on the fourth floor and someone comes through that window can they pick you up and drag you out or not?

These are the same stupid types that wants to allow homosexuals to donate blood. Hey someone may die because of this but at least woman and homosexuals are not being discriminated against and really isn’t that more important?
This logic will not work for you if you have either one of the 2 disqualifiers.
1: White
2: Male
I’m 61 and have been battling Leukemia for the last ten years. Needless to say, the Disease and the Treatment has taken its toll.
I guess they can’t use that against me if I apply for a Job.
Where do I sign up? I really could use a New York City Fireman’s Pension.
Great...lower standards...more people die. Great, there, LIBs. You LIBs are mentally ill.
Same for our fire department that hubby worked for. I remember when they did it and hired a whole bunch of women. Within 5 yrs there were only 2 or 3 of them left since they all were hurt on the job and went off on some type of disability. Still not many working there. They just are not physically capable of doing the job.
San Fran did this about 30 years ago which is pretty close to the time we decided to leave CA. They lowered all the physical standards, and when older, male firemen took film of them trying to do the physical, the women got a judge to put the footage under a restraining order so it couldn’t be shown
on TV...it’s been downhill ever since.
As my wife said,, “I want the biggest, baddest, toughest SOB possible to be there on the ladder.”
bump
gotta break a few eggs ... and all that I guess
So just remember:
When your firefighter cannot carry your fat ass out of the burning building, at least you are dying for a politically correct cause, gender equality.
ooooooooooooohhhhh that would make a great lawsuit!!!
Maybe we could get Larry Klayman to file it.
They were once firemen. Now, they’re firepersons (says me).
Insanity follows liberals like a bad smell.
Didn’t they lower the standards on the written tests because not enough minorities passed?
Excluding everybody with an above average IQ is a great way to eliminate a large proportion of the white candidate pool (and thus increase minority hiring) without it being too obvious what you're doing.
Might want to drop a hint about the Americans with Disabilities litigation if not hired. You could get hired, fill the quota and get yourself pensioned off after a week or so.
Otherwise known as Darwinism 101 for Leftists. I'm all for it.
Oh, I'm disqualified and hated by libs for a number of reasons.
The ironic thing is, libs would read that and be repulsed, and instantly hate me. Yet they'd go congratulate each other on being so accepting, so pro diversity. {snort} Libs, if they weren't so dangerous they'd be the funniest show on Earth.
They can bring the coffee and donuts, then, since who’d wanna put their life on the line with such dangerous accommodations.
That could be valid - what's more valid is that many of the physical requirements also help the firefighter stay alive when SHTF and also allows for the firefighter to be available, and useful, if fellow firefighters need rescuing.
What a great idea! /s
