I guess, with this economy it would be too much to expect the job to go on remaining unfilled. But it would be nice.

They had problems with him for years, and what does being a vet have to do with it?

My first job when I was 16 was working at McDonald's and one of my "friends" came to my counter and begged me to give him a couple of hamburgers and not ring it up. I took some money out of my own pocket and paid for it for him. I was only 16 and I knew that was the proper way to do it.

All these generous people saying "But it was only a biscuit" have obviously never been in a retail business dealing with shrinkage. The biggest danger to your bottom line is product that disappears. Somebody who is dishonest in small things can be dishonest a LOT in small things.

Why? Because of this? The man was warned repeatedly and reminded repeatedly about the policy. If they gave free food to everyone that was homeless or had a hard luck story, paying customers wouldn’t be able to get in the door.

IMO Cracker Barrel did nothing wrong and the article pulling in this guy’s vet status is nothing more than a sympathy ploy. Vet or no vet, 73 or 18, he disobeyed the policy.

Thank you both on asking the question what being a vet has to do with what this guy did.

I get so sick and tired of new stories that say “He killed 12 people, stole billions and raped 2000..” then add. “Jones had once been in the army/marines” etc.

The fact the person was in or is in the military is only mentioned to paint veterans and active duty people as baby killers (etc) by the slimy media scum like they did to Vietnam vets.

What does being a vet have to do with anything? The guy was stealing, and he attracting homeless, non-paying riffraff that would displace and repel paying customers.

The manager was wise, and withing his rights.

The guy was warned about giving away food 5 times before he was fired. In my book that’s about 3 warnings more than he should have gotten. If he was so concerned about feeding other people with food that didn’t belong to him he should have bought the food first.

And by the way, what does the fact that he’s a veteran have to do with anything?

Good, so I won’t have to wait in line to get in next time.

Theft by any means is still theft ... should have paid for it then given it to him ... but yes, it was a bit extreme of his boss.

Just to remind the usual Scrooges here, we’re talking about packets of mayonnaise and a couple of lousy CB muffins. We are not talking about free meals, free steaks, etc. Or a free bottle of gin.

BTW - in 0bozo’s only paid job he gave away ice cream to some street kids - he stole just as he’s stealing in the presidency - never learned that theft is against the law.

So it wasn’t his first time? That explains it

If he had been told repeatedly not to do it...and continued...CB has every reason to fire him

Not only its loss of inventory and money...in some areas it could be considered a health code violation
