Full title: "Today we honor men who fought on D-Day to defeat Nazis & end the Holocaust. Here is President Reagan’s remarkable speech at Point du Hoc on the 40th anniversary."

Seventy years ago was “D-Day.” The bravest men America and our Allies had to offer stormed the French coast of Normandy.

They did it to defeat the cruel and evil Nazi tyranny. They did it not to conquer but to liberate. They did it to set free the people of France, and all the people of Europe. They did it to liberate the concentration camps and end the Holocaust. They did it to protect their parents and wives and children back home. They did it to obey their leaders. And to honor their God.

The following are remarks delivered by President Ronald Reagan on June 6, 1984 commemorating the 40th Anniversary of the Invastion of Normandy. It is one of my favorite presidential speeches. I commend it to your attention. I encourage you to read it to your kids, or watch it here on this video.

—————————–

President Reagan: We’re here to mark that day in history when the Allied armies joined in battle to reclaim this continent to liberty. For four long years, much of Europe had been under a terrible shadow. Free nations had fallen, Jews cried out in the camps, millions cried out for liberation. Europe was enslaved and the world prayed for its rescue. Here, in Normandy, the rescue began. Here, the Allies stood and fought against tyranny, in a giant undertaking unparalleled in human history.

Beautiful speech by President Reagan (weren't they all?), but as I read it the name Bergdahl kept popping up in my mind. What does he know about honor, obedience...? And towards the end of the speech, the name had changed to Obama. Oh, well, it is a great speech!

Go to the link (in the article) and watch the speech. He did not use the word “I” not even once (except when it was part of a quotation).

Many thanks for the post of Reagan’s speech!

Ronaldus Magnus, indeed.

He was of the Greatest Generation; the challenges of those times gave him and his colleagues of that era courage, honor, and a sense of right behavior.

But foremost, people of that time did not hesitate to express faith in Almighty God publicly, and follow that faith.

Reagan knew the source of our strength, and honored Him.

I pray that the Almighty again send us a leader like him!
