The average response time for a code-3 call around here is over 10 min - average! One school security officer related to me that he was told by the County Sheriff's office it might take up to 20 min to get a deputy on scene - no matter what was happening.
So you see mookie, we are on our own. Our personal security, the safety of our loved-ones, that is all 100% on us, not the police. Law enforcement protects society by (hopefully) eventually catching/stopping the bad guy. But it is only by extremely rare chance that it plays out that law enforcement just happens to be on scene where a violent crime starts. You want yourself and your family protected from violence? It is up to you to be prepared to stop it.
That is why I choose to be armed. That is why I want the most effective tools around - yes hollow points, all kinds of ammunition, lightweight AR style rifles, large caliber handguns, as many rounds in a magazine as I can reasonably carry, etc. etc. Yes these are dangerous, deadly, effective weapons at wounding and killing - that is exactly what I want and need. I don't want to use the minimum force necessary to deter an attacker. I want to use the maximum force I can bring to bear to end an attack immediately. I want the attacker rendered physically unable to continue the attack, no matter what he may be thinking. I want the decision to continue threatening me or my family taken out of his hands immediately.
A huge number of the “murders” in Detroit are justifiable homicide. That’s because people know they need guns.
City slickers tend to be afraid of the country because there aren’t other people around.
They bring the city sense that someone dangerous could be lurking around every corner—and then don’t see the best city counterbalance to that, which is having a crowd of people around you for safety.
