Just a thought, but what percentage of people under 40 even would recognize and have a good understanding of the events that these two pictures represent?

Also a good point. We now have several generations of the historically illiterate endowed with the vote and a huge sense of entitlement. Scary, isn't it?

I live in town with a small presence/footprint.

I bought an outdoor fireplace for burning trash/garbage. Also bought large paper bags to put trash/garbage in, instead of plastic bags. Will burn the paper bags of trash/garbage in the outdoor fireplace.

I didn’t have enough soap for various cleaning, like washing dishes, bathing, hair washing, other cleaning. Men also need shaving cream.

There is one soap that will do all of the above. It is Kirk’s Castile bar soap. Instead of buying separate soaps for one thing or another, I will just have one soap to do it all.

I have multiple bars of other soaps for trading.

See post #33 this thread.

This article and much more is included in my preparedness manual which can be downloaded for free at:

http://tomeaker.com/kart/Preparedness1j.pdf

NOTE! THIS IS A FREE DOWNLOAD. I DO NOT MAKE ONE CENT OFF MY PREPAREDNESS MANUAL!

For those who are just starting or are old hands at prepping I think that you will find my Preparedness Manual helpfull.

For those of you who haven’t started already it’s time to prepare almost past time maybe. You needed to be stocking up on food guns, ammo, basic household supplies like soap, papergoods, cleaning supplies, good sturdy clothes including extra socks, underwear and extra shoes and boots, a extra couple changes of oil and filters for your car, tools, things you buy everyday start buying two and put one up.

As the LDS say “When the emergency is upon us the time for preparedness has past.”

Or as the bible says: A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.
NIV Proverbs 22:3

Lastly this for the doubters and the scoffers.

“There is no greater disaster than to underestimate danger.

Underestimation can be fatal.”

For the ‘Sky is Falling’ crowd see post #7 this thread.

You shouldn’t use bleach or alcohol on wounds. Bleach can be used to disinfect surgical instruments and surfaces, but it is not an effective antibiotic because it also kills cells in the tissue, delays healing, and makes it more likely for a dangerous resistant infection to set in. Stock up on triple antibiotic ointments (neomycin/bacitracin/polymyxin) which promote wound healing.

I have a good shortwave radio to listen to ham operators to get news. In a bad situation, they will likely be our only way to get news.

Ya know, that eerily parallels a discussion that The Bride and I had recently.

In addition to the ongoing preps, she wanted to include a significant stock of both; but I think she meant only for personal/family consumption, and not barter items.

More for the list...

Not just defending, but also cache-ing and concealment are important to deal with these first five as well.

No more Sears catalogs. I keep large phone books in case toilet paper runs out.

The difference there is John Doe wasn't in a SHTF crisis and the doctor most likely wasn't a zombie or some marauder out to murder his wife, rape his daughter, shoot his dog and steal everything he had. That said, two bricks of ammo in normal times seems like price gouging.

Agreed. The history of wars and disasters is quite clear on this. Diarrhea will be a huge, and currently underestimated, killer. A safe water supply, and Clorox and such to make and keep it safe, as well as proper - essentially exquisite - attention to sanitation and waste disposal and such could be life-savers.

Over-the-counter anti-diarrheals such as Imodium for minor cases might help if you can’t get more potent prescription supplies in quantity, but the real deal requires non-oral fluid and electrolyte replacement. Bulk IV fluids will not be practical for most, but enema bags and the ingredients & recipe for a replacement solution can literally “keep your a$$ alive”. It ain’t pretty to think about, but neither is a corpse - especially if it’s yours or your loved ones.

I have Travis’ 3 “Enemies” books (given to me by friends as Christmas gifts), but I didn’t know there was another in his series. I’ll order it; many thanks, yd!

"out to murder his wife, rape his daughter, shoot his dog and steal everything he had."

Are you sure you got those in the right order? I couldn't help, but think of this line from the movie 'The Running Man':
"You're lucky he didn't kill you, too. Or rape you, then kill you. Or kill you, then rape you."
