House Leader Opposes Voter ID Laws in All 50 States
A Semi-News/Semi-Satire from AzConservative ^ | 5 Nov 2011 | John Semmens

Posted on 11/05/2011 3:43:12 PM PDT by John Semmens

House Minority Whip Representative Steny Hoyer (D-Md) sent letters to the secretaries of state in all 50 states asking them to take action against “any and all attempts to limit the right to vote by requiring those wishing to cast ballots to show identification.”

“It’s supposed to be a secret ballot, but how can it be if voters must reveal their identities?” Hoyer wrote. “Voters may have good reasons for not wanting to disclose personal information about themselves. Creditors might link names and addresses and harass these people with demands for debts to be paid. Police could use such information to serve outstanding warrants.”

“Besides, a system that confines voting to only those registered is fatally flawed,” Hoyer’s letter continued. “Is a person any less of a person because he is unable or unwilling to register to vote? Aren’t all ‘men’ created equal? Shouldn’t all ‘men’ have the right to vote?”

Hoyer urged the secretaries of state to use a simplified protocol. “Anyone who takes the trouble to walk into a polling booth ought to be given a ballot,” Hoyer suggested. “The process would be more efficient. People wouldn’t be delayed by needless reference to registration lists. They could just vote and move on.”

The risk that unscrupulous persons might defraud Hoyer’s proposed system by voting multiple times was deemed “inconsequentially small” by Hoyer. “The chances of any single vote determining the outcome is tiny,” Hoyer pointed out. “From a logical perspective, it doesn’t make sense to vote even once, much less repeatedly. In my opinion, the fear of multiple votes from a single person is way overblown.”

The House Democrat admitted that it was unlikely that many states would formally adopt his recommended approach. “The important thing was to get this idea out there,” Hoyer maintained. “Even if my suggestions only inspire an irregular tendency to occasionally overlook a rigorous adherence to ID rules it will still be a step toward a fairer and more universal franchise for all who live in this country.”

In related news, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif) says she is confident that Democrats will regain the majority in the November 2012 election because “Democrats have raised more money than GOP candidates. Money is the life’s blood of politics. Now that President Obama has cut loose from Congress he can ensure that those who back us will recoup their donations via federal contracts and awards. The GOP can’t match that.”

Statement: "“It’s supposed to be a secret ballot, but how can it be if voters must reveal their identities?” Hoyer wrote."

Response: What an idiot! People must identify themselves when they sign in at the polling place-at least in our state. I enter the polling place. Go to the appropriate place table and announce my name. The lady then has me sign by my name and address. Then I am given a ballot and directed to a booth.

Hoyre has also asked that all TSA/airport checkpoints cease checking for valid photo ID's, stating "What, the flying public can't be trusted to just tell the screeners who they are?" Similar requests are being made for check cashing and car rental services.

As usual, your satire is right on. As far as I know, the Dems managed to find a dozen or so nuns at a convent in Ohio that were off the grid. That was it. All others in this country either have the means to get ID, or have ID. The idea that some 80 year old inner city black grandmother is off the grid is INSANE. She’ll either need ID to access Medicare (or even see a doctor), or she’ll need ID to access Social Security (or Medicaid, or welfare).

The argument is a non-starter for rational people.

For those without IDs have each state set up stations where folks can be branded on their arms with a unique number. This would be done for free of course and only hurts for a day or two. Your ID or your branded arm will get you into the voting booth.

If you have neither, you don’t get to vote. ... Now, who wants to get themselves an ID... hmmm?

Can’t wait for tonight’s debate between Newt and Herman!

...There is some truth to that. Consider this. In 2008, I didn't get to the polls until late, minutes before closing. In KY, McCain had a landslide and the electorate, therefore my vote didn't matter. I didn't vote for him anyway...

... And no, Not for BHO either...

After all, can’t illegals vote?

Can’t the dead vote?

How can we win seats if our people - illegals, felons and dead people - can’t vote early and often?

He may as well have said that, that’s what he means.

I mean feed my 65 starving children, half of whom are disabled ya know.

That's 1 pup more than 6 litters, and that's one more pup than the gubberment will let you keep!

You'll have to have more litters until the sum can be divided by 8, or else the Grand Form Creator would have to create a new form , and we wouldn't want to do that, now would we?

Hopefully this is about all we hear of the bill.

I’m almost thinking that Ellison’s (peace be upon him) bill is intended to send a signal to courts to start throwing out these laws. I’d hate to think it has any chance at all in the House, give our majority.
