Those are two pretty good arguments. I would respond thus-
1) the president was in a jam. The pressure was getting too much even for him to bear. Remember that some flunky lied to protect John Edwards out of misguided loyalty. Its not inconceivable that some gang that included Obama would try this and then work to tough it out. They might see this as a better option than keeping the mystery rolling.
2) Maybe. Maybe not.
“Ann Dunhams signature. Apparently, she forgot to put her first name there, and then added it in parentheses, as an afterthought.”
Honestly, how many times have you signed your name and “forgot” to put your first name in there? Seems weird doesn’t it?
A .jpeg is not actually a document. It hasn't been submitted in a legal venue as a legal document for any legal purpose. What is there to make a charge of fraud out of?
plus, what kind of professional forger would name a registrar U K L Lee (ukelele)
Why would that be a felony? It was not presented in a court of law or anything. I could doctor mine up and post it on the internet. No law broken.
Good points. More importantly, if it were a forgery I would expect somebody in Hawaii to speak up at some point. I supposed it is possible that what is printed on the document doesn’t accurately reflect what is in the true record but as you point out, somebody would have to be willing to commit a felony to make that happen. Given all the attention this has garnered I can’t imagine someone being willing to do that.
“Forging such a document would be a felony.”
Is Dan Rather in jail? Is Mary Mapes ?
I’m wondering if Rather and Mapes were sent to Hawaii to pick up the ‘long form.’
Ann Dunhams signature. Apparently, she forgot to put her first name there, and then added it in parentheses, as an afterthought. Now, seriously: If you were forging such a document, and you forgot putting her first name there, you would toss that thing in the garbage and start over, wouldnt you?
