Blogger admits Hawaii birth certificate forgery, subverting Obama claims (Uh-oh)

Jay McKinnon, a self-described Department of Homeland Security-trained document specialist, has implicated himself in the production of fraudulent Hawaii birth certificate images similar to the one endorsed as genuine by the Barack Obama campaign, and appearing on the same blog entry where the supposedly authentic document appears.

The evidence of forgery and manipulation of images of official documents, triggered by Israel Insider's revelation of the collection of Hawaii birth certificate images on the Photobucket site and the detective work of independent investigative journalists and imaging professionals in the three weeks since the publication of the images, implicate the Daily Kos, an extreme left blog site, and the Obama campaign, in misleading the public with official-looking but manipulated document images of doubtful provenance.

The perceived unreliability of the image has provoked petitions and widespread demands for Obama to submit for objective inspection the paper versions of the "birth certificate" he claimed in his book Dreams from My Father was in his possession, as well as the paper version of the Certificate of Live Birth for which the image on the Daily Kos and the Obama "Fight the Smears" website was supposedly generated.

Without a valid birth certificate, Obama cannot prove he fulfills the "natural born citizen" requirement of the Constitution, throwing into doubt his eligibility to run for President.

McKinnon, who says he is 25-30 years old, operates a website called OpenDNA.com and uses the OpenDNA screen name on various web sites and blogs, including his comments and diary on The Daily Kos. In recent years he has divided his time between Long Beach, California and Vancouver, British Columbia. He is a Democratic political activist, frequent contributor to the left wing Daily Kos blog, and a fervent Barack Obama supporter.

Ibrahim is wanted by the FBI in connection with the 2008 Sunrise Equities scam in Chicago, in which investors were ripped off for a total of approximately $80 million.

Here, Obama cuts the ribbon at a ceremony in which Sunrise Equities donated office space to Obama when he was running for US Senate in 2004.

Sunrise Equities shut down in August, 2008 when its CEO, Salman Ibrahim, and other top officers vanished. The money seems to have gone with them. The Illinois Secretary of State and the FBI are investigating the scandal.

About 150 investors, mostly Muslim, learned in August that they had lost all of their savings to the Sunrise Equities fraud. Sunrise Equities, a shariah-compliant investment firm, targeted investors who were mostly Pakistani Muslim immigrants. Many the victims took out home-equity loans to make ends meet.

I’m just looking at this now. You’re absolutely right. What’s interesting is that what the Hawaii State Librarian had in her desk drawer is the (almost - one forgery trace was deleted) same copy (right down to where the microfilm was stopped on the reader when it was copied) that Michael Rivero at Whatreallyhappened.com got directly from the Honolulu Advertiser.

The only place that would have that clean of a copy is the archived master copies at the Honolulu Advertiser office. IOW, the Advertiser sent a copied piece of paper to the Hawaii State Library to give out to people who asked for this.

You are right that nobody looked at the actual archives; if they had they would have known that announcements were NOT just posted on Sundays in the Advertiser.

The Advertiser’s archives were open to the public at least as late as 2004. When Michael Rivero asked the Advertiser for the birth announcement they didn’t send him to the Hawaii State Library; they sent him the announcements for both the Advertiser and Star-Bulletin (they have all the archives for both papers).

My guess is that they forged the announcement they wanted to get out, gave a copy to Rivero and then gave a copy to the Hawaii State Library. Then when Starfelt contacted them they told her that their archives aren’t open to the public and sent her to the Hawaii State Library, from which she was given the forged copy that the Advertiser had sent her.

IOW there is one source for both the Advertiser and Star-Bulletin images that are on the web: the Advertiser office - who alone has the master microfilm copies that are pristine and could be forged. And which also most probably has a microfilm camera with which they could make microfilm “patches” to splice into other microfilm reels - or could actually make a brand new reel and simply replace it for what was in the libraries.

The issue of whether it is microfilm or microfiche is actually important because the diagonal scratches that show up on the microfilm copies couldn’t come from a microfilm archive. They would have to come from heavily-used microfiche that was used to make a microfilm reel. I just looked at a website which said that the Advertiser has both microfilm and microfiche that had been available to the public - and I would add that they also have the pristine microfilm master copies. So they would have the ability to forge copies that look like they’re very worn as well as pristine copies like what Starfelt was given.

If the Advertiser was the only place that made microfiche copies, then the microfilms that have the diagonal marks must have come from the Advertiser’s microfiche that used to be public (which they have now closed). But if that was the case then there shouldn’t be any underlining or circling because the microfiche would have been made of clean paper copies of the paper, not ones that had been sitting in a library getting marked up. The other marks may have been added to obscure the evidence of forgery.

Whew. A lot of double-checking I need to do, now that I have better knowledge of the capabilities of the people most likely involved.

The more I look at this the more I think the Advertiser is hiding more than just biased reporting on Obama.

Any insights anybody can give would be great.

2. Authors’ Demands on White House Called ‘a Pain’

A growing number of veteran journalists are readying books about Barack Obama and his administration and seeking inside information from the White House.

The blitz of upcoming books “has created complications for presidential aides, who have a country to run, and frustrations for the authors, who are clamoring for face time with their sources,” The Washington Post reported on Wednesday.

“One White House official calls the mounting demands ‘a pain’ in the posterior, saying: ‘We try to engage when we can. No one is getting as much time as they want.’”

The Post’s Bob Woodward, who has been covering Washington politics since the Watergate era and penned four books about George W. Bush, has a book about Obama scheduled for publication in the fall.

***Another Post journalist, David Maraniss — who wrote a biography of Bill Clinton — is said to be a year away from completing his family history of Obama.

Newsweek’s Jonathan Alter’s book, “The Promise: President Obama, Year One,” is due out in May.

The New York Times’ Jodi Kantor has a deal, reportedly worth seven figures, to write about the personal side of the first couple.

New Yorker Editor David Remnick’s biography, “The Bridge: The Life and Rise of Barack Obama,” will be published on April 6.

NBC’s Chuck Todd, who covered the 2008 campaign, is writing about the partnership between Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

New York magazine’s John Heilemann, who wrote a best-seller about the 2008 campaign, has reportedly signed a $5 million deal to write about Obama and the 2012 presidential race.

Books are also in the works from MSNBC’s Richard Wolffe, New York magazine’s Washington correspondent Ryan Lizza, and Time magazine’s Mark Halperin.

First lady Michelle Obama’s office has also been swamped with requests from journalists, but all have received the same answer, according to The Post.

Camille Johnston, Michelle’s communications director, declared: “We are not cooperating with any books on the East Wing side.”

Obama and the stranger - 20 yrs on...

The Norwegian newspaper VG has reported a truly amazing story about a newly-wed trying to get to Norway to be with her husband, and the stranger who helped pay an unexpected luggage surcharge.

The blog ‘Leisha’s Random Thoughts’ has translated the story. It was 1988, and Mary Andersen was at the Miami airport checking in for a long flight to Norway to be with her husband when the airline representative informed her that she wouldn’t be able to check her luggage without paying a 100 surcharge:

When it was finally Mary’s turn, she got the message that would crush her bubbling feeling of happiness. -You’ll have to pay a 103 dollar surcharge if you want to bring both those suitcases to Norway , the man behind the counter said. Mary had no money. Her new husband had traveled ahead of her to Norway , and she had no one else to call.

I was completely desperate and tried to think which of my things I could manage without. But I had already made such a careful selection of my most prized possessions, says Mary. As tears streamed down her face, she heard a ‘gentle and friendly voice’ behind her saying, ‘That’s okay, I’ll pay for her.’

Mary turned around to see a tall man whom she had never seen before.

He had a gentle and kind voice that was still firm and decisive. The first thing I thought was, Who is this man?

Although this happened 20 years ago, Mary still remembers the authority that radiated from the man. -He was nicely dressed, fashionably dressed with brown leather shoes, a cotton shirt open at the throat and khaki pants, says Mary. She was thrilled to be able to bring both her suitcases to Norway and assured the stranger that he would get his money back.

The man wrote his name and address on a piece of paper that he gave to Mary. She thanked him repeatedly. When she finally walked off towards the security checkpoint, he waved goodbye to her.

Who was the man? Barack Obama.

Twenty years later, she is thrilled that the friendly stranger at the airport may be the next President and has voted for him already and donated 100 dollars to his campaign: He was my knight in shining armor, says Mary, smiling. She paid the 103 dollars back to Obama the day after she arrived in Norway .

At that time he had just finished his job as a poorly paid community worker* in Chicago , and had started his law studies at prestigious Harvard university. Mary even convinced her parents to vote for him: In the spring of 2006 Mary’s parents had heard that Obama was considering a run for president, but that he had still not decided. They chose to write a letter in which they told him that he would receive their votes. At the same time, they thanked Obama for helping their daughter 18 years earlier.

And Obama replied: In a letter to Mary’s parents dated May 4th, 2006 and stamped ‘United States Senate, Washington DC’, Barack Obama writes**: ‘I want to thank you for the lovely things you wrote about me and for reminding me of what happened at Miami airport. I’m happy I could help back then, and I’m delighted to hear that your daughter is happy in Norway . Please send her my best wishes. Sincerely, Barack Obama , United States senator’. The parents sent the letter on to Mary.

Mary says that when her friends and associates talk about the election, especially when race relations is the heated subject, she relates the story of the kind man who helped out a stranger-in-need over twenty years ago, years before he had even thought about running for high office.

Truly a wonderful story, and something that needs to be passed along in the maelstorm of fear-and-smear politics we are being subjected to right now. UPDATE: Thanks for the recommends, folks! Also, remember this was 1988, when 100 dollars was quite a bit of money, compared to today’s value.

Adjusted for via the CPI, that would be about $189 in today's dollars ... an awful lot of money for a kid who “had just finished his job as a poorly paid community worker in Chicago.” It also makes no sense, as Obama is only generous with OTHER people's money, instead of his own.

As I recall, Barry and his wife commented on 60 minutes that Obama’s first car was so rusted from when they dated in Chicago that Michelle could see the pavement through a hole in the door.

And the most-obviously question to this story is that Miami is FAR removed for a kid living in Chicago, in or about to begin school in Boston. IF he was making one of pilgrimages to his “homeland,” wouldn't he fly from NY to Europe then Africa versus through Miami to Africa?

Okay, just one question, my sense of logic is having trouble wrapping around this story - not that I am saying it’s false!

but... Obama is living in New York as a community organizer, just got accepted to Harvard, yet he ends up in Miami International Airport (instead of a NY Airport) at the baggage check in counter no less, when all we know is that he traveled to Europe before starting at Harvard.

Why Miami? Anyone have any idea why he was visiting Miami at that time?

He was hired as Community organizer by Developing Communities Project, a church based community organization. The organization wanted a young black man to help them collaborate with black churches in the south side. From 1985 to 1988, Obama worked there as Director of the organization.

He helped blacks fight for their rights from the city government. He worked to improve the living conditions of poor neighborhoods which faced crimes unemployment. Working in a small organization taught him organizational skills. He was always good with words and was known for making speeches which people could emotionally connect to.

He worked with Saul Alinsky whose method was agitation which meant getting people angry enough about their current state of things that they are compelled to take some step and do something.

During his tenure at Developing Communities Project, the staff at this organization grew from 1 to 13 and so did their budget. Then, he worked as consultant and instructor for Gamaliel Foundation, a community organizing institute.

It was 1988 when we first traveled to Europe and then to Kenya for few weeks, where he met his fathers family for the first time.
