Petition to Congress Against High Gas Prices
http://www.biggreenfish.com/gaspetition ^ | 4/21/2005 | Gas Fighter

Posted on 04/21/2005 4:10:44 PM PDT by Gas Fighter

Gasoline prices are high, and we need to make them go down! I have started a petition that can be downloaded at http://www.biggreenfish.com/gaspetition. This petition asks that the United States Congress do everything within its power to lower gas prices to a bearable level, and that it set the initiative for scientists and engineers to find the best alternative fuel source to gasoline and discover the best way to convert our nation to that new fuel source. Download it and pass it on to all your friends. I will turn the signed petitions for my area over to my congressional representative during the first weeks of May. All the petitions need to be in the hands of our representatives before they leave for the summer break. If this petition does what it can, it will launch America above other countries in the fuel market. We would not have to be manipulated by foreign fuel producers any longer; America would produce its own fuel. So, let's all do our part to strengthen America!

Hey, while we're at getting congress to lower gas prices, why don't we have them take control of all our medical costs, and retirement, and housing, and raising our kids. Why not just have good ol' benevolent Uncle Sam just take care of everything for us?

Rescind all federal taxes on gasoline, and drill in ANWR, and off the coast of California.

What's wrong, tired of capitalism?

Let's have a nice big law to fix whatever it is, maybe a GFederal Oil Company.

Gas prices, adjusted for inflation are no higher than they were 30 years ago.
You have gotten spoiled by a period of historically low prices.
Grow up and stop whining.

Most people are like frogs. If prices change slowly, they can deal with it. But when they change too quickly, they squawk. The poorer folks among us have set their financial expectations based on the gas price being at a certain level. And so they are being hard hit. The rest of us may complain a bit, but it doesn't really bother us.

Your points are well made.

1. Double number of refineries - silence NIMBYs and Green extremists.
2. Drill all continental shelf areas.
3. ANWR.
4. Veg. Oil

How about a petition to lose stupid laws that force all private research into alternative fuels to be regulated by govt?

You are right on, have both the feds and state take the taxes off, that would reduce it greatly, remember it was the ex impeached president Clinton, thqt put the 4.5 cent tax on when he first became president..

Yeah, let our government start fixing prices on everything and we can join in the failed concept of socialism.
I think there are a few speculators who like being puppeteers. Yesterday gas in St Louis was 1.99..... today it was 2.18. The price of gas changes about as much as my wife changes her mind! LOL

Seriously, gas prices are not a function of government regulation. If our government was interested in regulating gas and oil supply they have had 35 years to come up with something. Since little has changed (except our consumption and imports have doubled) in 35 years I believe it is the free market and entepreneurism that needs to take the initiative to develop alternatives, and not government.

Too many of us are faulted into believing that government caN SOLVE ALL PROBLEMS. That is the whole problem. People solve problems and government likes to study problems and rarely has a workable solution!

I don't understand. Free Trade was supposed to prevent this from happening. There must be some mistake with the data on gas prices. Yeah, thats it, a mistake.

Maybe we can take The Law of Universal Gravitation to The Supreme Court and get an injunction against its enforcement while we're at it.

There is this thing called supply and demand. More demand, constant supply equals higher prices. Sorry.

Don't worry, though. The MARKET will spur private development of alternate fuel sources once gas gets too high.

Take your socialism elsewhere.

"1. Double number of refineries - silence NIMBYs and Green extremists."

If you're so against NIMBY, then lets build a nice big refinery next door to you. A refinery will obliterate the property values of any land next to one. Let's not destroy peoples property rights just because you want cheaper gas.

"2. Drill all continental shelf areas."

There are some federalism issues there. Let's not trash State's rights over higher gas prices.

"3. ANWR.
4. Veg. Oil"

Those work.
