Here is today's Sixty Second Activist ACTION ITEM:

ISSUE: In August, both Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle and House Minority Leader Dick Gephardt acknowledged that Rep. Gary Condit (D-CA), a member of the House Intelligence Committee, was "blackmailable."

According to NewsMax.com, U.S. intelligence officials reportedly lobbied to have Condit removed from the sensitive post after his affair with missing Washington, D.C., intern Chandra Levy became public, along with subsequent attempts to cover up other illicit relationships.

"Though concerns about national security have risen exponentially since 7,000 Americans were killed in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, Condit continues to hold his Intelligence Committee post," reports NewsMax.

And now, just a day after President Bush established the Cabinet-level position of Office of Homeland Security, Rep. Condit was named to the House Subcommittee on Terrorism and Security, ABC's News 10 in Sacramento, Calif., reported.

ACTION ITEM: As noted by Larry Klayman of Judicial Watch, the public interest law firm that investigates and prosecutes government corruption and abuse, "In this time of national emergency, we can think of few worse to lead Congress's fight against terrorism than Gary Condit, who has been implicated in the disappearance of a young intern. His lies and obstruction of justice make him unfit to hold public office, let alone a sensitive post on the Terrorism and Homeland Security Subcommittee. His presence on that committee is a threat to our nation's security because of, among other things, the potential for blackmail."

Please contact House Speaker Dennis Hastert and House Minority Leader Dick Gephardt immediately and ask them to not only remove Condit from the Terrorism and Homeland Security Subcommittee, but remove him from the equally sensitive House Intelligence Committee.
