TRIPOLI, Libya – Fellow Arab and African nations raised the international pressure Friday on Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi, with tiny Qatar flying the Arab world's first combat missions over his country and the African Union imploring him to move toward democratic elections. The military operation against Gadhafi, which on Friday included airstrikes by British and French jets, remains a U.S.-led operation, though NATO was preparing to assume at least some command and control responsibility within days. .

So, what does success look like? Were we supposed to own this, just kick it off, or what? No boots on the ground, just bombing to open the door wide for the rebels. What do we know about the rebels? Why does Al Qaida back them. (Former fighters against the US in Afghanistan and Iraq amongst the leaders it's been reported.) The justification of a leader harming is own people? Whoa boy, the line of conflicts standing in line for US support would be a mile long. So, what gives? The French, the normal ostrich with its head in the sand, are now like a snake-eating commando with a blade in between its teeth? And that's not simply to be first in line to secure new oil contracts with a new government? It's altruistic? Seriously, we need some direct talk on the strategic issues here and not just word mincing.

My observation is, and I may be wrong, is that no Arab/Muslim nation joined the no fly zone until after all the dirty work was done. None of the Muslim nation leaders want to be accused of actually bombing another Muslim nation.
