Just a moment to bump for some auxiliary "troops"...
such as all the entertainers who have gone out into the field to give our folks a lift...
far from home and on significant days.
From older days, Glenn Miller comes to mind. My understanding is that he
jumped aboard a single engine plane to get to the continent of Europe to plan
a Christmas-time concert...but apparently was lost due to an ill-timed flight over a
British bomb-dumping area.
And to Bob Hope. Aside from all his field trips, I'll never forget seeing some old
film footage of some of his radio show broadcasts from the USA in WWII.
I especially liked him broadcasting "sounds from home"..the sound of a steak
sizzling as it hit a hot pan.....and a beautiful young lady uttering a feminine, sensual "sigh"
into the microphone.
And for all their successors up to the present day...they deserve thanks for
making holidays far from home and family tolerable, if not enjoyable.
