Don't play sims too often. Jane's Longbow 2 is about it. I keep it on realistic flight performance while using a wingman extreme digital joystick.
Originally I had wanted to join the navy and be on submarines (5 foot or 500 foot, a hole in the hull is a hole in the hull)
Well, the navy told me to f myself. As did the Marines and the Air Force.
The Army told me to play with tanks, the National Guard said, 'You pull this little lever here and somethinf eight miles aways get vaped.'
I went with Artillery.
This fits in with the flight sims in this way: I'm near sighted, so I'd be a ground crewman only. I'd never get to lift a heck-a-bug off the ground, ever.
But I've had people tell me I'm a natural at it. (Huh? How can one be a natural at flying anymore? It's all electronic, and flying a helo in the real world is a lot dif than flying a sim.)

Color blindness kept me out of Armor. Ended up as an Engineer and then later a Mortarman. I have the orignal Longbow and still play European Air war every once in a while. I love the ME-262!
