My Father was in Korea with the 24th AAA Gun Bn from 9/52 to 2/53.
Interestingly enough, I could see the hill where his battery was situated from where I was stationed!

Yes, it is a Garand. The only rifle that has a whole series of competition matches just for it. I shot matches with one while in the Navy and have a pre-war model (Nov 41) that I shoot in Garand matches now.

I shot in the Garand match this summer at Camp Perry. In fact, I was sort of shanghaied into going. However, I fell in love with that rifle and the matches during that hot day.

I bought a CMP Garand, and next spring I'm going to get out and shoot every match MRPA or MCRGO puts on...

Well, I guess I'd better rearrange my schedule for tomorrow because I'm looking forward to this thread and it sounds like I might be here for a while. I love these types of historical threads.
