I remember back in 1965 when I was 15 (The year he arrived there) and reading about our guys getting killed and my blood would boil. I ended up 4-F and couldn't go. The day he came home I answered the door and was so happy to see him and my mother broke down when she saw him knowing what a relief it was that he'd made it back.

A couple years later my two nephews were sent and they also made it back. Also had a brother do two tours in the Navy (He talked with McCain after he was released from prison), and another brother who went there in the Merchant Marines.
I've also got a nephew right now in the Army Reserve.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't those M-1 rifles being carried by the Color Guard?

Yup,sure enough! I know the Navy still has M-14's,but who wouldathunk they still have Garands? The sailorette carring it doesn't look real happy,though. In fact,she looks kind of spaced out.

God watch over our remaining WWII Vets and guide their souls to heaven.

My former brother-in-law died two years ago,and he was retired from the USCG. He was already on a cutter when Pearl Harbor was bombed,and remained in for over 20 years. The freaking Coast Guard couldn't even be bothered to send a honor guard to his funeral,and he was buried within 50 miles of one of the biggest CG bases. I'm STILL pissed about that!
