I got back 9/67 to Chicago, a very conflicted 25th Inf Div. PltLdr(LRRP)
Heard alota BS, but never a Thx. Yrs down the road when i began hearing “Thx for your Service” I was numb & could find no honest reply. I finally witnessed someone respond with a sincere,
“YOU... were worth it “!!, & I knew I’d finally found my own personal, heartfelt reply.
So, that’s what I do now ... Stop ....turn...look the person STRAIGHT in the eye, & say those words... “YOU (pause) WERE WORTH IT.”
If the ‘Thank You for your Service’ had been sincere & heartfelt, I can read it all over their face immediately. Off’times they’ll choke up themselves as they receive such a personal, Patriotic offering/response/understanding.
