I was in Marine boot camp in early 1981.

Having women with me would have made those 13 weeks a lot easier. That's all I'm saying.

I had an Army buddy who was a Drill Sargent at Fort Sill, OK back in '81 when the Army started incorporating coed basic training.

He related to me that it was a complete cluster**** as you can imagine.

The same PT standards applied for both men and women to begin with and then the 'ladies' were cut some slack and the standards for them were lowered during the training cycle. Morale among the men cratered immediately, they were pissed that the girls were getting special treatment!

Of course, the main problem with a coed training and sleeping environment was that putting 18 year old boys and girls together 'surprisingly' led to a lot of sexual encounters and a few pregnancies before the training cycle ended.
