My Dad was on the USS Mississippi and saw service at Peleliu, the Battle of Surigao Strait, Leyte Gulf where it was hit by a kamakazi, and Okinawa where another kamakazi stuck her. His ship anchored in Tokyo Bay, witnessed the signing of the surrender documents.

My wife's late father also sailed into Tokyo Bay.
I believe that he was aboard the Destroyer USS Vesuvius.
