New Veteran's Right
8/16/09 | Natural Law

Posted on 08/16/2009 8:57:25 AM PDT by Natural Law

Veterans and active-duty servicemembers not in uniform can now render the hand salute during the playing of our national anthem, thanks to changes in federal law that took effect this month. The legislative change was sponsored by Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., an Army veteran, and included in the Defense Authorization Act of 2009.

The new provision improves upon a little-known change in federal law last year that authorized veterans to render the hand salute during the raising, lowering or passing of the flag. But it did not address salutes during the national anthem. Last year's provision also applied to members of the armed forces while not in uniform.

" As a Marine I can't salute without a cover, it isn't natural."

I can understand that.. as a Air Force Vet.. I find it unnatural to this day to walk into a building with a hat (cover) on.. or walk out of one without one.

But I have learned over time to overcome those ingrained urges... its still there.. but suppressed.

as a Air Force Vet

Are there any circumstances (except for being under arms), where the USAF salutes indoors uncovered?

Only if reporting to a officer “as ordered” in their own office. (usually only if your in deep trouble).. that is the ONLY circumstance outside of being under arms.

I was agreeing with you by the way :-)

I know you were, but your clarification here explains a situation I had with an AF General. I wondered why I got 'that' look.
