My step-father, Kirby H., a Korean War Army vet has recently expressed an interest in being buried in uniform. I don't even know if this is permissable and another problem is that he doesn't have a uniform.

Can anyone tell me where a Korean War era Army class "A" uniform might be obtained?

He recently sent a request for his medals to the V.A. which he had lost over the years, among them is a Bronze Star.

Don’t know about the legalities of being buried in the uniform. But I see them at flea markets in the military surplus things. I guess you would have to research to ensure authenticity. Also there are collectors in the back of Military History magazine who can be helpful.

My father was buried in his Air Force uniform, although he had been retired for a while. The Air Force sent a representative. I don’t think there’s any problem, especially since he was entitled to wear the uniform.

The DoD has a website that will help you locate a funeral director in your locality who deals with military funerals. Hopefully he could answer your questions.

I'm sorry to hear about your step-father.

He is still living but is planning ahead. He has already arranged to be buried in a military cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri. I will talk with somebody there and see if I can get info on the uniform.

My son’s Army uniform would fit my step-father but I am sure the style has changed since the Korean War.

Thank Kirby for his service for us. It’s perfectly okay to be buried in his uniform.

You might try this guy’s shop on ebay. Good luck.

One more thing. I see that the Marines have their own store where a Marine can purchase a uniform if they supply their rank and serial number. Perhaps the U.S. Army does too. It wouldn’t hurt to contact them.

When my dad passed away a year and a half ago, a very nice kid from the Army shoed up and presented my mom with an American flag after the short family-only ceremony. He looked just like one of my cousins, but i knew it wasn’t Gregory, because he was serving in iraq at the time.

When my Dad died, the Army assigned a Casualty Assistance Officer (LtCol) who helped me purchase a dress uniform for his burial. Additionally, he contacted the French Embassy in order to get a ribbon for Dad’s Croix de Geurre.

The CACO was very helpful.
