Your post reminds me of two things.

The Marine Corps wants major caliber gunfire support for future amphibious assault. When one reads about battleship gunfire support one cannot help but agree. As I recollect Iowa was withdrawn from Viet Nam because the communist government in the north objected to her major caliber gunfire.

Good ol' LBJ. Not all Texans are worthy of the name.

San Jacinto was as well timed a counter attack as I can recollect. (The Bulge counter attack was well timed. Montgomery, by the way.) Even the Wehrmacht would have counter attacked much sooner than Houston did.

Don't forget Houston's retreat to San Jacinto. Withdrawal in the face of the enemy while under pursuit and amongst a horde of civilians and with an undisciplined force, and then to time exactly the counter attack - gives one pleasure to contemplate it.

He certainly wasn't.

Wonderful move on Houston's part. Waiting and searching for just the right moment.

Good to see you Iris7.
