Sometime during this weekend, please take a moment to remember our fallen comrades. And have a safe weekend.

Tonk - please ping your list.

We walked among the crosses
Where our fallen soldiers lay.
And listened to the bugle
As taps began to play.

The Chaplin led a prayer
We stood with heads bowed low.
And I thought of fallen comrades
I had known so long ago.

They came from every city
Across this fertile land.
That we might live in freedom.
They lie here 'neath the sand.

I felt a little guilty
My sacrifice was small.
I only lost a little time
But these men lost their all.

Now the services are over
For this Memorial Day.
To the names upon these crosses
I just want to say,

Thanks for what you've given
No one could ask for more.
May you rest with God in heaven
From now through evermore.

I went to visit two vets today. One was a Korean-war Navy vet. I had told him I'd bring him a new set of Colors to fly since his old one was a rag... having flown since 9-11-01... then I tole him and his wife about our service behind City Hall. I was pleasantly surprised when they came over!

Later I went to visit a Marine who retired (with a 22-year career under his belt) in 1947. We had a nice, LONG conversation about the OLD Corps... he served in Nicaragua, China, RUSSIA and at various points during WWII. He was a mail guard during the '20s, performing that duty under Major General Smedly Darlington Butler, one of only two Marines to win TWO Medals of Honor for separate actions. We both decided that, while we might not be able to actually reenlist, we did have at least one good bite left in us... All in all, it was a GRAND and glorious day.

Doug... PINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG and I want my copy of your new book. The online stuff looks GREAT! (http://www.monumentbooks.us/todd/index2.html )
