Morning SCDogPapa. I have a hard time imagining jumping from an airplane, into ground fire, at night and behind enemy lines. Definately a special breed of American.

Good Morning WaterDragon

Gliders for large troop movements pretty much ended after WWII.

If you ever want to read a very good book about the Airborne Operation on D-Day, read "Night Drop" by S.L.A. Marshall

Good morning WaterDragon, yep our men are good looking that's for sure.

Based on your question about gliders, here is a thread on gliders we did a while back you might like.

I feel the same way. I like to have maps available when I'm reading a book about a battle or a campaign. When I had my collection of war games, sometimes I'd use the map from one of the games while I read about a particular battle, some of them were actually quite good.

One of the reasons that I learned geography was my interest in history, hard not to pick up some geography.

Dear snippy_about_it,While I was visiting St.Mere Eglise in Dec.2000,I had the priviledge of meeting a man named Howard Manoian. He was a member of Company A,505th PIR,82nd Airborne Division and jumped in there(St.Mere Eglise)on June 5th,1944.Howard is quite a celebrity in those parts. He has lived nearby for nearly 20-years.I am returning to Normandy this December and I hope to find him at the little brasserie(adjacent to the church where John Steele's parachute became snagged)cursing in both French and English! He is rather a curmudgeonly fellow and a HERO among the locals!!

1865 Mark Twain publishes "Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County"

I was born in Mark Twain hospital in San Andreas, Calvaras County, about 100 years after the fact.
