There were pies and then there were breakfast pies. Dough was flour lard and salt with Occationally added cinnamon, butter for pie tails.. (Also breakfast cookies—oatmeal/raisen/nuts )
Mom loved to bake. (She wasn’t much of a day to day cook )
Sounds like real scratch bake yummy hoosiermama, used to scratch bake all kinds of breads and cookies especially around the holidays. Think I’ll dig out the baking pans and get cutting.....

Reminds me of my MIL’s Sweet Biscuits, recipe came across the plains with the pioneers.
Made mostly from flour, lard and water with a little sweetener if they had it, would add berries found along the way, cook in dutch ovens and store in tins so they could eat along the way for breakfast.
My kids liked them with nuts and raisins.
Love the idea of pie for breakfast.
I was always partial to a piece of my Mothers’ cold cornbread on Thanksgiving morning, leftover from making dressing.
Oh, and really good pie crust still involves lard!
Happy Thanksgiving to all of my Trump Train friends!
