I agree with jmegan, it seems that a lot of Paul's support comes from the new college counter-culture movements. Ron Paul is the new Che.

If you look on most of the anarchy sites that are popular in these college movements, you will see a lot of Paul support. Example:

Paul is just the in thing to follow now... Stephen Colbert may be his biggest threat.

I have never seen a candidate get so much grass roots support, along with so much grass root money. He has raised almost half the amount of money in October as he raised last quarter. On Nov. 5, he will probably get close to $2 M on that day alone. That is worth about $10 M to Ron Paul, given his grass roots support.

I know he is still a long shot, but I am willing to put my money on him.
