Jesus said many things which apply to everyone. Just because He was speaking with the pharisees at the time does not mean that the saying was directed solely at them (God gave Moses the ten commandments for the Jews...guess they don't apply to me!?!). It was something which shows that worldly wisdom is not enough to see what God reveals to His own.
