I would agree that they certainly have the promise that they will receive eternal life, but Hebrews 11 still suggests that they do not have it. I can see your point though because I believe our spirits return to God the father upon death. However, I think the the bible teaches that they're in a state of unconsciousness until the resurrection. And I beleive they are conscious, so we are probably not going to settle this issue in this life, but we will certainly know, someday, and neither of us will say, "I told you so." I have enjoyed the interesting discussion, however, and your thoughtful comments and ideas.
God bless!

xzins, the Revelation passage does indicate bodies in heaven. But I need no convincing on that point. I do not believe in disembodied spirits, asleep or awake. There is no place in Scripture where such a thing is ever described, or even suggested. (I do not think 2 Cor. 5 suggests that.)All beings always have some kind of body, both temporal and eternal.
As for, If your reading on this is that the angels in Rev 22:8 are men made into angels then I would have to disagree.
I do not mean to speak for xzins, he is perfectly capable of doing that for himself, but I am sure he does not, and I certainly to not believe what you have suggested, and I didn't get that impression from what he wrote.

Good picture of you Doug, you must workout a lot. I guess I shouldn't run around in such skimpy clothes. Probably torture for you. :-)

Hank, Doug,
I would not go beyond what Jesus said. Therefore, I would never say that men are made "into" angels.
Jesus said they were "like unto" if I remember correctly. In other words, there's a similarity that is not explained. I don't know what that is.
It's possible that that similarity includes appearance. I don't know. There is only the barest of biblical information. The passage I quoted COULD BE a source of information. (This is speculation: it is a possible interpretation for me.) And it touches on the question of Lazarus' having a finger.

It is stated in Rev.7:13-14, that the dead from the Tribulation are 'arrayed in white robes'
They have not yet received their Resurrection bodies.
Paul is speaking of our last hope, that we will receive the Resurrection body (Rom.8), but the soul/spirit are already present with the Lord.
For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ, which is far better;(Phil.1:23)
How could it be better for Paul just to be asleep since he would not have been with Christ?
