Gee,my grandma played bingo. She was born in Austria was a Republican and one of the first books I remember was Hayek's "The Road To Serfdom". She could not drive when she got older and so would walk with her friends,many of whom were poor,to the parish hall for socializing and bingo.

Mind you, I am not speaking for all catholic bingo players but I did know enough of them to know that it was a nice admixture of mutually beneficial endeavors.
