It's scripture so it's lovely, I'll agree with that.

So, if it's not scripture, it's not lovely?

Nothing in the Hail Mary is a prayer to Mary:

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

It is simply a request that she pray for you -- much like when you request your church or a friend say a prayer for you. Where do you get "Mary worship" out of that?

Why would God be interested in hearing what amounts to a chant? He wouldn't.

Do you sing hymns at church? That is what these prayers are -- spoken hymns. They serve the same function: to get a person in the right frame of mind for worship.

Luke 1:28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favored, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.

Luke 1:42 And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.

It adds more possibilities to the Rosay. Those who want can still try any variation, even the simplest.

I think you meant to say 159 Hail Marys. There are 3 sets of 5 decades, so that is 50 per or a total of 150. Then at the start is the Apostles Creed plus 3 Hail Marys and a Glory be. So that would be 9 more Hail Marys for a grand total of 159 for all 15 Mysteries.

The life of Jesus is ``Mary worship.'' As a Christian, you never consider the life of Jesus, and that's supposed to be a good thing?

More Mary worship. Good job mr pope!

You sound like someone who believes that the "Hail Mary" should only be used in the last minutes of a football game or perhaps your earthly existance.

IMO, the "Hail Mary Pass" should be reserved for the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame ...

How is it that reflection of humilty, charity, poverty (of spirit), purity of heart, piety, contrition for sins, mortification of the senses, interior mortificaiton, patience under crosses that we bear, dying unto ourselves, conversion of heart, a desire for heaven, recognizing the gift of the Holy Spirit, recognizing Mary as a devoted servant and eternal happiness is vain repetition?

A chant is a chant. If I get on my knees and repeat John 3:16 100 times, though John 3:16 is scripture, I am chanting. That is a vain repetition. I am also not praying though my mind is focused on God and sending my little words to Him. It is not prayer.

A chant is a chant.

And, as I pointed out, it serves the same function as a hymn. You do sing hymns, don't you?

Well, throught the years there have been many variations, and some people add different prayers. Someone could still go with just saying the Our Father and ten Hail Marys.

Knee-jerk protestantism. We don't worship Mary, we venerate Mary. I suppose you venerate Calvin at your church?

<> vain repitition is solely defined by you? Show me anywhere in the Bible where is says YOU have authority to decide these matters; or ANY matter?

Matt16:18 refers to the Papacy, not some usurper who shows up 20 centuries after the fact.<>
