lay collaboration -is not the answer.

The answer. GET RID OF THE QUEERS!

Second, all clergy and religious and laity in the employ of the Church must take oath of fidelty(yearly).

I never heard of her before, myself.

Is this speech going to have a point? it seems pretty much hopping around randomly.

Happy those who do not follow the counsel of the wicked, Nor go the way of sinners, nor sit in company with scoffers.[Psa 1:1]

Think of Vatican II's influence on us: eyeopening, mindshaping, formative.

This scandal is their Vatican II.

A blow to credibility in Public Square when Catholics offer "their vocabulary" on War and peace, debt relief, the economy, welfare reform ... (for Pete's sake.)

I've known her too long. This is a terribly composed speech. "Truth is we don't know the truth" -- nonsense.

Is this speech going to have a point?

Her "grimly judgmental editor's eye" forgot to make sure it was included, I guess.

"Outside forces have played a role . . ."

"It's a blow to the Church's credibility" on the "economy, welfare reform, stem-cell research."

"The truth is that we dont know the truth -- the full truth -- about the sex abuse scandal."

Many questions unanswered: how did we get into this mess? Can't count on the media to tell us?

The bishops do not look inspiring today.

They open a hole and dig it deep, but fall into the pit they have dug. Their mischief comes back upon themselves; their violence falls on their own heads. [Psa 7:16-17]

My husband just asked me if his listening to this speech would count as penance for some unrememberd or future sin..... God bless his dear heart; he does make me laugh when I don't know how to laugh anymore.

When asking "what can we do" we find, 40 years after Vatican II, the promise of collaboration wasn't made good. That, itself is a scandal.

She lists things that have been called causes: celibacy, homosexuality [yes, she said it], excesses of the 60s, repression of the 50s. [I can't recall the others.]

In any case, "the dam has broken."

Bishops have said "things that were not true."

ARGH!

Maggie seems to be arguing that the problem is that we haven't let enough homosexuals into the priesthood.

Who invited her? Weakland?

Divisions in the church: One side sees as the solution what another side sees as the source.--(true enough!)

Emphasizes that libs and conservatives are all angry.

Have to trust the laity.
