I have no doubt that there were individuals who were saved, but the church itself became corrupt so it's lampstand was taken away.

Becky, is it in the bible that one of the church's lampstands was taken away?

James 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Note that ... sin, when it is finished, bringeth about death. And when is sin finished ? ... when it has completely estranged us from God. There is no question that we must endure ... in our walk with God, for this is the essence of our quest ... to be with God.

Revelation 2:7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

... and how do we overcome ?
Revelation 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

Good Letter, My son's going to CMU in the fall, looks like you'll be neighbors. What's that part of the country like, and Pittsburgh?

I am a CMU alumnus. Is he going for engineering? Tell him to be prepared to work hard, party hard and forget about finding a girlfriend.

Where are you guys coming from? Pittsburgh once attempted to market itself as "the city with a smile on its face." We are notorious for being friendly, or at least polite. People hold doors for each other and such. We like to give directions based on landmarks that aren't there anymore.

It's a "midwestern" city more than a northeast type. It's generally a low crime city, divided into unique neighborhoods, which still retain some vestigies of ethnic enclaves. The CMU campus borders a large city park and is pretty insular. Your son will have little need to leave the campus to do his day-to-day things, so it's not like he'll be in an urban atmosphere.

The University of Pittsburgh is right down the street, so when he does choose to explore the area, he's got all the benefits of a neighborhood that caters to college students, with record stores and fast food places and such. And of course the O, famous for its french fries.

I got another letter published. Guess which one is mine.

It isn't necessary to read the signature to know which letter was written by William Donahue Jr. It is obvious that the writer is a "professional victim".

Has it ever occurred to you that the prejudice is directed at the so called Religous Right? Of course conservative Catholics are included in this group, but it is not as exclusive as you think in your narrow minded way.

For an example of a more balanced letter:

"Rob Rogers and his ilk are so quick to criticize, mock and ridicule those with an opinion that differs from that of the politically correct minority. Wouldn't this be called hate speech if it were the other way around? I look forward to a cartoon by Rob Rogers that denounces those who exhibit intolerance for the conservative Christian viewpoint."

DIANNE THOMPSON
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Now why don't you think this lady didn't write "anti-Protestant" anywhere in her letter?

Have you ever stopped to think there are many millions more conservative "Protestants" in this country than conservative "Catholics"?

Is that Browning guy anti-Protestant?

I'm not ignorant of this fact, Reggie, and I would hope that the other conservative Non-Catholics would take my letter not in the spirit of exclusion. I simply did not want to clutter up the thought by adding on additional phrases.

Santorum is a Catholic. He was attacked for his Catholic views. So I defended that in these terms. To use a term like "religious right" is overused. People need to hear what it really is.

Only cause you know me would you interpret this as an attack on other conservative religious folks.

So who says your real name is Dave? (Mine isn't Cindy). Laurie was my second choice. lol. It was a good letter but I had fun ignoring the writers names and looking at the content. Diane was eliminated because you have said you have been to Alabama. James leans redneck. Ross brief and not your style of writing. Pat a democrat and in politics. Luther has a race issue and Benard didn't seem to like GW.

Bio-medical--looking to go on to medschool but he'll have an NROTC obligation to deal with. He'll have his hands full for sure.

We live in NYS on the Hudson right next to West Point. Very beautiful area. CMU sounds perfect for him.

Oh yeah, I did add that Santorum's view was "grounded in traditinoal morality." That's inclusive of all who hold such views. So there.

I've never been to Alabama. I said that James Carvile likened the rural areas of Pennsylvania as being basically the same as Alabama.

I think I'll root for Minnesota to reach the finals, and not just because they will have the decency to start there games at a reasonable hour.

Unbelieveable. I gotta root for the ducks tho. I think they have the best chance to beat an eastern team.

OK. So he won't have to acclimate to hills or winter weather or anything. Make sure he brings an umbrella. If he's planning on bringing a car, it will be quite a hassle.

(Reg) Has it ever occurred to you that the prejudice is directed at the so called Religous Right? Of course conservative Catholics are included in this group, but it is not as exclusive as you think in your narrow minded way.

I'm not ignorant of this fact, Reggie, and I would hope that the other conservative Non-Catholics would take my letter not in the spirit of exclusion. I simply did not want to clutter up the thought by adding on additional phrases.

A naive hope when you are writing a letter to the editor isn't it? "Anti-Catholic" is far far from an inclusive choice of words. No, no, your choice of words come straight out of the Catholic League book.

Santorum is a Catholic. He was attacked for his Catholic views. So I defended that in these terms. To use a term like "religious right" is overused. People need to hear what it really is.

The overused choice of words is "anti-Catholic". You lose more than 1/2 your audience when you frame your arguments in this manner.

Do you suppose President Bush is hated by the liberal left because they see him as a Catholic?

Only cause you know me would you interpret this as an attack on other conservative religious folks.

You are partially correct.

You are wrong in that I didn't take it as an attack on other conservative religious folks.

You are correct in that it was only because I know you I could pick out your letter without seeing a signature.

You are correct if you think I see you as narrow minded and self centered to the extreme.

It is never said that loving one another is a qualification for salvation.

That is exactly what it says. Such a statement, on its face, is rather appalling.

Where does the scripture say this ?

You are correct if you think I see you as narrow minded and self centered to the extreme.

You are mistaken if you think I care.

I think most moral folks understand that the Catholic Church is the largest voice and hence the largest target on moral issues. Only a fool thinks the Catholic Church being silenced and marginalized is a good thing for the advancement of moral causes.
