The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

LOL, no, that ain't the one. I can't read the prescription but it looks like 'difrolen" or something like that. Will be picking it up today. I got a nice rash on my leg just below where I got the stitches.

1. If you're single don't buy insurance

2. Never buy life insurance on children.

3. As you get older, carry less life insurance.

4. Buy term insurance.

Or 1) Don't buy insurance

2) Don't die.

I find Tolkien infinitely more entertaining than that series. It's not very good writing(sorry Cindydawg). It reminds me of dime novels.

Lol. You're right I don't feel like I'm reading a masterpiece. But its like a movie you're 3/4 finished with. You wish it would hurry up but you've invested so much time already that you're on a mission to complete it. :-) By the way, I love Tolkien stuff.

Heheh... Reminds me of the instructions for flying.

1. Throw yourself at the ground.

2. Miss.

(SD) Answer the question. Did he or did he not say that all gambling for money is wrong?

(Doug) I think there's no question that gambling for money is a sin.

No Dave, you inserted the all.

Now, I have had several others here acknowledge that insurance is indeed gambling with money. So Doug needs to change his definition.

So what? Life is a gamble. Every minute of every day you are gambling with your life and health. Why do you continue insisting on your narrow definition. How good is your memory. Can you go back a few days to find a dictionary argument you used with me concerning the "gamble" of casting lots?

Dictionary.com:

The use of objects in making a determination or choice at random: chosen by lot.

"Random" is the key word here. Voting is not random, and lots are not ballots. They are the precursors of dice

Let's use the same logic with "gambling".

v. gam·bled, gam·bling, gam·bles

v. intr.

To bet on an uncertain outcome, as of a contest.
To play a game of chance for stakes.
To take a risk in the hope of gaining an advantage or a benefit.
To engage in reckless or hazardous behavior: You are gambling with your health by continuing to smoke.

Don't you think it's about time for you to end your childish games?

Malakhi, you know very well what game Dave is playing. You should be ashamed of yourself. Shame. ;-)

Maybe HEAMRight will play with us.

That would be an unethical conflict of interest. And you know us RCs - I could spend and extra century in Purgatory and have Mack beat me in!

Maybe if I have to switch employers.

Oh come on Dave, are you afraid of becoming your own financial expert?

No, i'm afraid I don't have any money to gamble in the stock market with. At least in Atlantic City, you get free drinks while you're gambling. ;-)

I'm not gonna go back and dig out Douglas's original post. But the statement above, attributed to Doug, is not qualified in any way. In the absence of any exceptions, I have to assume that he means "gambling for money is a sin" period.
