The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

2 And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned, that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.

In light of the passage in 2 Corinthians above, how do you reconcile the dogmatic assertion that Light(Christ) is in communion with the reprobate priest in the Eucharist?

1 Corinthians 11:27-29 Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.

Neither the sin of the recipient nor the minister diminishes the presence of Christ in the eucharist. Rather, it diminishes the efficacy of that presence toward the sinner, perhaps even reversing it so that a blessing becomes a curse, yet the presence is not to be doubted.

Well after we reach the 65,??? post, can't angelo just start a new thread? or did JR say that would be it? We could start under a new name:)

Of course there will be a new thread!

I proposed naming it "Cretinous Heresy Lovefest 2004". ventana suggested "Martyrdome". Or we could stick with "The Neverending Story". I'm open for suggestions! ;o)

Does God use you as an instrument? Are you without sin?

See the scriptures I posted.

I had to jump in on this one Dave, are you concerned that God will judge you by His Pedophile standards?

huh?

If I don't commit adultery, and I rebuke someone who does, should I worry that God may hold me to those same standards? I don't think so.

You guys honestly don't understand. Sometimes I forget that.

The point is not "I don't do this, so I can rebuke others with a clean conscience." That's smug.

The point is that people who feel free to judge others to not even have any faith, none at all, not now, not ever, because of their struggles with sin, are working above their pay grade.

Is it your position that whenever someone gets saved they are automatically exempt from ever being tempted into sin and falling? Is that it?

If someone struggles with his particular demon, is that prima faciea evidence that he never had faith at all?

That is what is being said with the "reprobate" comment.

I was under the impression that judging who was reprobate or elect was left to God.

Maybe I should join your side. You get to have all the fun.

"'32,000' denominations should be enough for anyone"

I don't think anyone could simultaneously belong to 32,000 denominations. ;o)

Possible thread names:

"Yo Mama"

"You might be a redneck if..."

;o)

Presumably, the priest is someone who believes, but commits gross sins anyway.

That is our presumption.

The rest of the "saved" gang here are judging the priest's soul based upon their superior knowledge. That and the fact that no saved person ever struggles with habitual sin.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, no?

***He is the power, she the utility lines.***

He is the Vine, we are the branches. But our faith is in Him not us. Apart from Him we can do nothing.

Our faith is in Him not in us.

Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?

Again, the verse is not on topic. You are connecting personal sin with being an unbeliever (implying believers never sin). This would force God to be unable to work through ANY human being since we all sin. Does the verse differentiate between sins?
