While I agree we are in trouble, some people can still think...and do. Our task here, for those of us who can still think, is to present the our viewpoints in a logical manner. Sarcasm, although personally gratifying, does not accomplish this goal.

Sadly, we seem to degenerate so quickly into mud and australopithicus-slinging that only the participants keep up with continued posts.

You're right, I think - after a certain thread length is reached, it's really only the usual suspects present any more, as far as I can tell. And what's the point of that, really? Catharsis?

Now, it occurs to me that there's a grant application hiding in there somewhere - we need to sit down and calculate what that length is, so we know when to close and lock threads. If we can find where the "crevo event horizon" is, we can keep these threads from becoming marathon flame-fests. ;)

Oh, I don't have a problem with that - I've been known to play devil's advocate just for the sake of provocation from time to time. I just wish I could puzzle out some sense of progress, as though all this was ultimately leading somewhere. Obviously, a consensus is going to be next to impossible, but just finding something new to fight about would be sort of refreshing at this point ;)

It's new for me! And I do enjoy a good fight.

"crevo event horizon"

LOL, my instincts (evolutionary-based, of course) would suggest that when certain persons visit the thread, that's the time to close the thread. However, I'll be good and not say that :)

I agree to a point. However, with the quality of some of these posts, sarcasm is very appropriate.

You, tied to the material as you undoubtedly are

Now that sounds like fun!

(blushes) "Mrs. Piltdown, are you trying to seduce me?"

;)

But counter-productive...it especially turns away potential participation from casual observers and lurkers. And it makes us look bad too.

How about how many Angels can dance on the head of a pin! :)

The Head of the Pin River is in the rather unhabited Parvati valley. Perhaps the angles are dancing there, along with the seraphim, cherubim, and thrones.

That should have been uninhabited. I didn't mean to imply that nuns couldn't live there.

Need my slide rule for this one.

You can borrow mine. Well, it's not mine, but somewhere around here - he said, lining up to rub a little salt in ;) - I have my (ahem) father's slide rule. And he had one of the deluxe circular jobs, too. Bet you're jealous now, eh?

Look bad? Read back over the thread. Just how much worse can it get?
