I’d agree with that as regards the OP’s link, but, the original paper (and rebuttals) IMO properly steer clear of theological issues, aside from the study authors speculating that the biblical account seems to line up with their hypothesis.
I mean, seriously, I believe in an omniscient God, but (again) I don’t expect to find discussion of theology in a paper doing an analysis of, say, how Hurricane “Otis” blew up so incredibly quickly.
(I also believe that much of what God does is beyond our full understanding.)
OTOH, when an apparent connection to Biblical accounts can be made, that helps blow up the narrative that the Bible is all a fable. Sometimes it may be useful in discussion with non-believers. Getting a foot in the door... IMO. :-)
