Kilroy was here is a meme[1] that became popular during World War II, typically seen in graffiti. Its origin is debated, but the phrase and the distinctive accompanying doodle became associated with GIs in the 1940s: a bald-headed man (sometimes depicted as having a few hairs) with a prominent nose peeking over a wall with his fingers clutching the wall.
Here he is, carved in stone, back-to-back with his identical twin, separated by a field of stars marking the price of freedom.
Immobilized, yet he's obviously a FUN GI! 🍄
See how this stuff just mushrooms? Proof that no one but no one can out-pun the Master of the Universe. Even poor Argus with all of his eyes couldn't possibly keep up.

Rabbi Nachman of Breslav points out various sources in which the Moshiach is associated with the sense of smell. Yirmiyahu refers to the Moshiach as the “breath of our noses” (Eichah 4:24). If they would only turn around, they'd see 4,048 narrow bridges at the ready in order for them to be able to meet-up again.

Regarding the Western Wall of the memorial:
Originally, our intent was to have the exact number of stars on the wall that would represent the exact number of Americans who gave their lives for freedom at a ratio of one star for each 100 deaths. We know that there were more than 400,000 who died (not all of whom were in the military services), but our research made us realize that there was no way to quantify an exact and defensible number. We decided, therefore, that the Field of Stars would be a symbolic rather than exact tribute to those who died. We wanted at least 4,000 stars, but the exact number was determined by the space available on the wall.That leaves 1/3 of the site (1 ha) as the space for the memorial itself. The memorial consists of 56 granite pillars, each 17 feet (5.2 m) tall, arranged in a semicircle around a plaza with two 43-foot (13 m) triumphal arches on opposite sides. Two-thirds of the 7.4-acre (3.0 ha) site is landscaping and water.
