What a story: Held in bondage, then released to travel back to where we belong- many of us have walked that road Dan. God is so merciful, that He does NOT give us as we deserve, but gives us grace to trust and believe.

I presume you mean from the live and dead sacrificial animals. I expect you're correct, although it was an urban setting in an agricultural society, so people were somewhat accustomed.
Probably wouldn't want to live downwind from it.
