I don't think you are getting any closer to proving your point. In fact I think you are pretty much abandoning the attempt.
Your memory is not very sharp. Dan Quale did not argue over the spelling of potato. He made a spelling mistake, prompting a kid to misspell the word when he was reading off of an incorrect spelling flash card. Later, when the error in the headline on the card was pointed out, he did not engage in various types of diversions, name calling and slander. He didn't try to associate anyone who criticized his error with "heretics". He just acknowledged the error and moved on. In his own words:
“It was more than a gaffe. It was a ‘defining moment’ of the worst imaginable kind. I can’t overstate how discouraging and exasperating the whole event was.”
People made jokes about him but he showed himself to be a standup man and not a weasel by owning the mistake.
You’ve been chasing your own tail for nine days now.
That's the same thing that happened to me when I challenged someone who claimed Trump said "All Mexicans are criminals" (spoiler alert: he didn't). They weakly tried to argue the point once using doctored quotes, and then when they realized they couldn't do it, they tried to make the whole thing about me. That's because people have a hard time just admitting that they are wrong and when they have posted fake quotes.
Ten days, and counting.
