I have been assisted by one whom later I realized was an angel. Mary-Lou had two who appeared as Jamaicans—but I’ll leave the retelling of that very interesting story to her.

I would suggest that you google or otherwise search 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment. You will find the complete history from 1791 to the Present.

I now have. Wikipedia, while confirming it as the unit's motto, is silent on the background of its adoption. However, Wikia.org suggests that Major General Anthony Wayne instigated it in 1792.

"Do Not Touch Me" is an entirely understandable sentiment for a fighting unit to display. Its use for over two centuries stamps it as being long-ago settled. Still, it begs the question whether anyone has challenged if it is altogether justifiable to appropriate Jesus' words to Mary in that way: not justifiable in the tired debate over separation of church and state, but justifiable in the matter of respecting the Lord's words enough to leave them "as is", in their original context only.

In those days the people of this nation and those in the military were substantially more God-fearing than the present leaders in the military. I haven’t researched it, but I would surmise that any number of military mottos have their origin in biblical teaching.

Still, one might argue that "biblical teaching" is one thing, and Jesus' widely-revered quote, His first post-resurrection words, is quite another. Just curious.

Anyway, thanks for mentioning it. Your ready knowledge of it suggests personal familiarity with the 2nd.
