The nick is an obscure reference in Star Wars (77). That said xp in greek is chi rho which is used as a symbol of Christ since it’s the first two letters in greek for Christ. I wasn’t aware of that when I started using this here and in other places around my life but I am now. My first name isn’t xavier but my middle name is Paul by coincidence. :)

Tissot did the brutal scene justice. Mel Gibson’s movie perhaps is the only one that captured the horror. Yet, I somehow think even that wasn’t as bad as the reality.

I know exactly how you feel. The theater was pretty quiet after the movie. I got the DVD and I intended to watch it every Passover/Good Friday. But it is too intense even for an annual watching. I haven’t watched it for about five years and perhaps I’ll watch it again next year.
I expect the scourging depicted was equivalent to Jesus' experience--much more and, as the supervisor noted, he would have died on the spot.
The staging of the crucifixion could not have been realistic, for Jim Caviezil, or any actor in his right mind, would have refused to allow his shoulders to be dislocated. Ironically, that's similar to the limitation on Mel Gibson's racking in Braveheart, another film I've only had the guts to see once. And I've read Foxe's Book of Martyrs cover-to-cover. One can stretch a book over a week, but a movie....
