James 1:13 (NIV) indicates that God does not tempt anyone which is implied by “lead us not into temptation” imo.

On the other hand, 2 Timothy 2:14 shows that Paul warned against quarreling over words which Pope Francis is arguably doing.

Also, regardless that Jesus’ apostles knew the Scriptures, they failed to connect prophecy concerning Jesus with events that they had witnessed as they followed Jesus. So understanding the Scriptures is not up to the will of man imo.

In fact, Luke 24:45-46 shows that the risen Jesus opened the apostles’ minds to the Scriptures after the fact.

Paul also explained in 1 Corinthians 1:18 that the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing.

Corrections, insights welcome.

You’ve nailed it. Massive amounts of effort going into precisely the WRONG issues.

For over 2000 years Christians have been praying “lead us not into temptation” and virtually NONE of them ever believed that it was saying God was the one who led us into temptation.

It’s a solution in search of a problem. Pope Francis is obviously inflicted with just massive, massive amounts of ego if he is this driven to put his own imprint on The Lord’s Prayer.

The Gk says "kai me eisenenkes hemas eis peirasmon" ... "and not lead us into temptation". That's not different (except in word order) from the Latin "et ne nos inducas in tentationem" ... "and not us lead into temptation".

Neither one of them are close to the proposed change.

The Word of God stands above the popes. Instead of trying to change God’s Word, this pope should change himself to conform to God’s Word.

Francis has already tinkered with God's Ten Commandments, including, "thou shalt not commit adultery" and "thou shalt not worship false gods".

I wouldn't be surprised if he goes after the Nicene Creed next.

With the Pope’s support (and some would argue pressure) the Italian Bishops’ Conference has therefore decided to change the text to, non abbandonarci alla tentazione, i.e. do not abandon us to temptation.

God will deal with this imposter for messing with his word...This idiot doesn't even know that God abandons everyone to temptation, even his Son...
