A proper consecration still needs to be effected. Precise instructions were given for the consecration but were not followed.
The building and rebuilding of Orthodox facilities is due to the natural religiosity present in human nature, when it is not suppressed by government. Once a proper consecration occurs, there will be no mistaking (watch for abortion to become illegal shortly afterward). And the Soviet Union succeeded in spreading her errors beyond any reasonable expectation. No one said Russia had to remain communist/atheist.
Yes, I listened to one of them for a while last evening. I hadn’t heard it for a while. It would be something to be at church when this music is used.
Indeed. I am not even Russian Orthodox, and i LOVE it.
Blessings, my FRiend.
I snagged a copy of your documentary on eBay just now for $8 (They say it's new and unopened, too!) I will be interested to learn more about the this person in the Ukraine of whom you speak who ostensively "came to Jesus" after listening to "Jesus Christ Superstar."
I have had a low opinion of Webber and Rice's work since it was released in 1970, as I find it blasphemous, particularly as it ends with Jesus Christ simply dead on a cross -- as only Satan himself would have liked the story to end.
By contrast, another work which came out simultaneously with JCSS was Ray Ruff's, "Truth of Truths," which set to music significant Bible accounts from the beginning in Genesis through Christ's death, burial and most importantly - resurrection, and to end of Revelation.
Like JCSS it too was a 2 LP set, and opened its first performance at the Hollywood Bowl in 1971 (Jim Backus played the voice of God!) At any rate Ruff was true to the Scripture in ways Webber and Rice did not care to be, and Ruff got the more accurate message across although the music and the performances were somewhat less polished than were JCSS's.
I'll be interested to see what your movie's take is on the topic - again where back in 1970, much music of the time reflected and inspired the Communist driven anti-war protests that in part led to the US pull out from VietNam, which in turn gave the Communists there a victory in South East Asia.
FReegards!
I’ll look for that one.

We compensated for the situation by switching the radio to a talk station when you left your car because you knew there were "monitors" who would peek in your car and decide if you were listening to rock stations -- making tapes of tapes, sharing headsets. We called ourselves the "underground." You figured out who was "cool" and who wasn't by talking in "tune" - quoting lyrics or whistling a a couple of bars to see who made positive eye contact. There were "spies" sent mingle and turn states evidence. We perfected disinformation and plausible deniability.
Why did they forbid rock? In part because the line was that Communists were infiltrating America with rock for the purpose of corrupting youth. The idea sold well among the JBSers at the time the slogan "Will you be free in '73?" was all the rage.
That said I did not see the Ukranian person who presumably came to Christ as an outcome of watching Jesus Christ Superstar in the video (the thing I really wanted to see) about which you spoke. Is is possible this is something that appears only in your book, but not on the video?
FReegards!
Well, in our interview she really did state that. Her interview is not in “Seven Events.” Her English is really bad.
