You do realize the Greek behind this indicates this was a private situation?
The key word in the passage, own, in Greek is ἴδια (idios), meaning properly, uniquely one's own, peculiar to the individual. 2398 /ídios ("uniquely one's own") is "stronger than the simple possessive pronoun ('own'). That simply reflects Jesus putting the care of his mother into John’s care before he left this earth.....noteworthy he did do because his family didn’t believe in Him....so of course he loved his mother so he left her care with one who did believe.
