Apparently, you never read beyond the title of this article, did you? It does not speak of a backlash against Islam but rather, against the Catholic Church when it maintains a stance of solidarity with the "religion of peace". Ex: "Meanwhile, Catholic leaders in America and Europe seem more concerned about the dangers of Islamophobia than the dangers of Islam."
Please go back and read the article.
The article said that there has been an atheist backlash against islam since 9/11 and that by being seen to support islam the Catholic Church could get caught in it.
I still don't see an atheist backlash against islam.

This is what most western atheists insist. I don't see many atheists holding it against Catholicism for apologizing for islam, since that's what most atheists do anyway.
But at any rate we're talking right past one another and I have a lot on my mind at present besides politics. Let's stop please.
